Taking your kids to Australia

Being a migrant and a parent.
As a newcomer to Australia, you have made a big decision moving your kids to a new country.  As new migrant you can access a variety of government allowances and benefits to help you financially.

Paid Parental Leave
Firstly, you should know about Paid Parental Leave.  This allowance is paid at the National Minimum Wage rate. Currently $570 per week before tax for a maximum period of 18 weeks. The rate of tax depends on your individual circumstances.  It is payable to you if you have just had a baby or even adopted a little one.

The Baby Bonus
Secondly, if you plan on having kids in Australia then you should know about the Baby Bonus.  You will receive a payment of $5,294 upon the delivery or adoption of a baby. It is paid in fortnightly installments.  You can’t receive the Baby Bonus and Paid Parental Leave for the same child.  So you need to work out which is the better option for you financially .

Tax benefits

Family Tax Benefit A

Also on offer is the Child Care Tax Rebate, which can cover 50 per cent of your child care expenses for approved child care, with a rebate of up to $7,500 per child, per year.

Few Extras to Consider

Finally a few other considerations.  Your children are entitled to free visits to see a GP and one free eye test per year through the Medicare system, .  You must be an Australian Resident to be eligible.  As a parent, you are encouraged to immunize your children by way of an immunization allowance. You can expect to receive a rate of $100 and $150.
